Managing Competency Areas

Instructions for RPDs and Designees to manage the program’s Competency Areas on the Competency Areas page.

Use this page to view, add, edit, and remove competency areas (CAGOs), and select a summative evaluation scale. These settings determine which goals and objectives are assigned to residents.

These tasks can be completed by the RPD and Designee.

Before You Begin: Understanding Competency Area Types

    • Required CAGOs: Required Competency Areas, Goals and Objectives developed by ASHP and automatically assigned to your program. These cannot be edited or removed.
    • Elective CAGOs: Elective Competency Areas, Goals and Objectives that were developed by ASHP that can be added to your program. Once added, they are assigned to all residents in your program.
    • Custom Objectives: Competency Areas, Goals and Objectives that were developed by individual residency programs in PharmAcademic. Once added, they are assigned to all residents in your program.
    • Resident-Specific Objectives: Objectives selected from elective or (other) required Competency Areas, Goals and Objectives. These are assigned to individual residents only (not the entire program).

Instructions

  1. Click the Manage Program button.
  2. Navigate to the Competency Areas tab.
View/Download Report
  1. Locate the desired competency area.
  2. Click the View link to download an Excel report for review or printing.
Select Custom Scale

Note: Do not update the summative scale mid- residency year, as this can impact evaluations already in progress.

  1. Click the Standard Summative Scale dropdown.
  2. Select a custom scale from the list. Note: Custom scales must be created before they are available for selection.
  3. Click Confirm Changes and Save.
Add

Use the following instructions to add additional sets:

  • Add elective CAGOs for all residents in your program.
  • Add custom CAGOs for all residents in your program.
  • Add resident-specific curricular sets for individual residents.

Note: Once added, elective and custom goals and objectives will be assigned to all residents in your program. Use resident-specific objectives  if you only want to assign them to individual residents

Edit

Update competency areas as needed:

  • Elective CAGOs: Click Select Objectives to edit goals and objectives for elective competency areas.
  • Custom CAGOs: Click Edit next to any custom set to update the custom goals and objectives
Remove

Note: Required CAGOs cannot be removed.

    1. Click the Remove link next to the competency area you want to remove.
    2. Select whether to apply the change to current residents.
    3. Click the Confirm Changes and Save button.

Removing a competency area also removes its objectives from all learning experiences.
