Modifying Learning Experiences to Meet Resident Needs
Instructions for RPD/Designees to modify learning experiences to meet resident-specific needs on the “Learning Experiences” tab and Resident Schedule.
Modifying learning experiences allows programs to adjust objective coverage, evaluation frequency, and activities to meet individual resident needs while maintaining alignment with program requirements.
This task can be completed by the RPD or Designee.
Before You Begin: Understanding When to Use This Process
Learning experience modifications are used when a resident requires different objective coverage than the program’s standard design. This may include increased evaluation frequency or additional objectives not assigned to other residents.
Note: This process applies to program objectives (required and elective). For interests outside of the program’s curriculum, assign resident-specific objectives instead of modifying learning experiences.
Instructions for Modifying a Learning Experience
- Copy the existing learning experience from the Learning Experiences tab.
A duplicate learning experience is created. Creating a modified copy helps preserve the original learning experience while allowing resident specific customization. - Rename the copied learning experience to reflect its purpose or resident specific use.
- Update the description field to document the modifications and/or additional objectives.
- Select program objectives and add activities as needed within the modified learning experience.
- Assign the modified learning experience to the resident’s schedule.
- Mark the learning experience as inactive, if desired, after scheduling.
This will keep your learning experience list clean, but you will be able to access the learning experience by clicking "Show Inactive Learning Experiences."
Important: Remember to document the modification in the resident’s development plan.
